Kaigo Code of Practice

A Kaigo is a guardian, protector, and guide through the transformative work of ceremony.

1. Core Values of a Kaigo

Presence – remain grounded, calm, and attentive in every moment.

Compassion – hold each participant with respect, dignity, and empathy.

Protection – safeguard the physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being of the group.

Integrity – act with honesty, humility, and in service of the medicine, not ego.

Confidentiality – honor the privacy and trust of every participant.

2. Primary Responsibilities

Preparation

Support participants before ceremony (intake, intention-setting, emotional readiness). Clearly communicate guidelines, expectations, and safety measures.

During Ceremony

Maintain a steady, grounded presence. Provide comfort and reassurance when needed, without interfering with the participant’s inner process.

Monitor safety — physical environment, health conditions, and group dynamics.

Intervene only with consent or in emergencies, always with respect.

After Ceremony

Hold integration circles with openness and non-judgment. Help participants ground insights into daily life. Encourage self-responsibility and long-term practices of healing and growth.

3. Ethical Standards

Boundaries – Kaigos must never exploit, manipulate, or form inappropriate relationships with participants.

Sobriety – Kaigos must remain clear-headed, sober, and focused during ceremonies. Non-Dogma – Kaigos guide without imposing personal beliefs or agendas.

Cultural Respect – honor indigenous traditions, practices, and wisdom without appropriation.

Accountability – Kaigos are responsible to the group, to fellow Kaigos, and to the medicine.

4. Personal Discipline

Maintain personal wellness through practices such as meditation, movement, or ritual.

Commit to ongoing learning — in psychology, plant medicine safety, and spiritual traditions.

Seek mentorship, feedback, and community accountability.

5. The Spirit of a Kaigo

A Kaigo does not lead by control but by care.

They are the quiet anchor in the storm, the gentle hand in the dark, the guardian who protects the sacred space.

Their service is to ensure that each participant may safely encounter themselves, the medicine, and the mystery.
